What a beautiful gift this would make for the "light of your life"! Includes standard US style plug and 7-watt US bulb. Since these are handmade, each lamp is slightly different, but they are all very similar and all beautiful - we hand picked each one!
The story of Thai "saa" paper:
Centuries ago in the hills of northeastern Burma the local hill tribe people noticed that the bark of the mulberry tree naturally peeled from the tree. They discovered that this peeled bark could be made into an all natural paper without damaging the tree. They called this tree "saa" and the same word is used in Thailand today. The bark is boiled and then pounded into a mushy pulp. Natural dyes are added , and the pulp is then put into a cloth covered frame. Sometimes, flowers and leaves are set into the mush before it dries. It is then set in the sun and the water is allowed to drip away. Once dry, the finished paper is carefully peeled away from the frame. Simply elegant!
