This gorgeous frame set is made from "saa" paper - heavy weight handmade textured paper made from the bark of the "saa" or mulberry tree. It has real leaves and flowers incorporated in the paper! Each frame holds either a 4x6 or 3x5 photo (the viewing openings are 3-1/4" by 4-3/4").
What a beautiful gift this would make for the special person in your life - complete with your photos, of course!
When you receive your frame, if you don't think it's the prettiest one you own, you can send it back for a refund! These were custom made for us - you won't see them anywhere else! Total length is 26 inches, including the rope to hang it on the wall. Since these are handmade, each one is slightly different, but the artist was careful to make them all essentially the same!
The story of Thai "saa" paper:
Centuries ago in the hills of northeastern Burma the local hill tribe people noticed that the bark of the mulberry tree naturally peeled from the tree. They discovered that this peeled bark could be made into an all natural paper without damaging the tree. They called this tree "saa" and the same word is used in Thailand today. The bark is boiled and then pounded into a mushy pulp. Natural dyes are added , and the pulp is then put into a cloth covered frame. Sometimes, flowers and leaves are set into the mush before it dries. It is then set in the sun and the water is allowed to drip away. Once dry, the finished paper is carefully peeled away from the frame. Simply elegant!
